Hidden water falls, local markets, traditional handcraft and so much more…
Our top recommendation for water falls are the Benang Stokel and Kelambu waterfalls. They are located on the South of Mount Rinjani, about 1 h drive east from Mataram.
At the entrance you will need to pay the entrance fee including a guide fee (~90.000 IDR per person). The guide will show you the way to the different waterfalls. Some of the guides can make nice fern crowns for you. All of them are happy to take pictures of you for a wonderful memory.
These water falls are still a hidden gem among international tourists. Nevertheless we recommend to plan your waterfall adventure around Sundays and public holidays.
Take a waterfall shower under the Benang Stokel fall and enjoy lots of playing and swimming in the cascades of Kelambu waterfall.
Stroll through the village of Banjumulek, South of Mataram, and see the traditional and famous Lombok pottery (exported to all over the world). In the village you will see the way the clay is burned. Together with your driver you can visit a local house to discover the traditional prodcution of the Lombok pottery. Maybe even try it yourself (this is not an official tour and thus we recommend to give a small tip to the family showing you their home pottery). Admire the variety and dimensions of the pottery production in a central store (community based). If you like you can buy something from the shop. They offer wonderful little objects to bring along from your holiday.
The Sukara village not far from Kuta is known for its weaving creating the brightly patterned songket motif’s the village is famous for. Depending on the difficulty of the motif, one sarong can take months to develop.
Upon arrival, a village guide gives you a brief tour of the location and history. Some interesting facts about the traditional lifestyle of the Sasak people are shared as well. You can see how the weaving is done and maybe even try it out yourself. After the brief tour, you are offered in the villages shop to dress you in traditional clothing and to take photos of you. This is of course also connected to entice you to buy from their shop, which offers wonderful high quality handmade products.
Not far from Sukara Village there is also the traditional Sassak Village Sade where you can visit and see for a small donation the traditional way of building homes and living, still popular in the rural areas of Lombok
Discover Lombok and its spectacular and most scenic routes. In particular the South coast of Lombok on the road from Kores to Sepi and further to Kuta.
Your hardest choice will be to chose your favourite beach (we recommend to visit 2). You can choose between the absolutely untouched wild Mekaki Beach. Or the calm and beautyful Beach of Selong Belanak (we recommend a stop here at Laut Biru restaurant). Then there is also the surfers place Mekaki Beach. And last but not least the beach promenade of Kuta. Another recommendation on the way is Ashtari restaurant with a georgeous view over the South coast of Kuta.
Dsicover Lombok and its spectacular scenery and have fun in big waves. Our recommendation: Just be careful for the currents and do not swim out. For a little bit of culture: Combine this trip with a stop at the traditional weaving village on your way back.
